Want to create a face beat that delivers on shimmer and shine? Xola Ntlokwana shows you how to do it in this step-by-step tutorial

Coming up with a fabulous face beat is *my vibe*, and when it contains shimmer – even better! This shimmery makeup look is eye-catching, glamorous and perfect for a night on the town with your girls, or date night with wine with your guy. It is fierce and dramatic and will give you that glow we all want from a completed look (and get you loads of looks, too!).

Here’s how to transform into a shine queen in just a few simple steps.

Step 1: Envisioning Your Look

It's important to have a vision of what look you’re going for before you start. This will help to give you direction for the type of look you’re trying to achieve. For this one, go through your makeup bag and haul out the shimmery shades – you’re going to need them!

Step 2: Prepping the Canvas

Make sure your skin is clean, moisturised and prepped with a good primer. Often people skip this step, but it’s very important as it helps you achieve a flawless finish and improves the overall look and longevity of your makeup.

Step 3: Foundation

It can be a struggle finding the perfect foundation shade match. My tip? Match it with your chest so that it blends in. To apply it, use a foundation brush or a damp makeup sponge and blend until seamless.

Step 4: Concealing

Start off by concealing your brows and giving them shape. This will help to guide you when filling them in. Then apply a highlighting shade at the highest points of your face, namely your forehead, underneath your eyes and the bridge of your nose.

Step 5: Contouring

Get a contour shade a little darker than your foundation shade and contour your face. Giving your nose, cheekbones and forehead some depth and shape. Make sure to blend your contour well to avoid any harsh lines.

Step 6: Baking

Baking, or powdering, your face, helps to set your liquid foundation and concealer underneath to ensure a long-lasting look. Pat your face with a translucent setting powder, leave it on for no more than 10 minutes and then dust it off. If you are not into baking (like me), you can just use the powder to set the areas you’ve highlighted.

Step 7: Eyes

For the eyes, you will use some concealer on both eyelids then go in with the eyeshadow colour of choice.

I like to start with a transition shade which helps me to blend my eyeshadow seamlessly. After that, you will go in with a darker colour to ‘smoke out’ the eye and give it some depth. Then apply your glitter-studded shade over it.

After your eyeshadow, you fill in your brows with a brow pencil and brush them through with a brow gel to set them. Using a good brow gel helps a lot as it makes sure to keep those brows secure, honey!

Step 8: Final Touch

Finish off your look by lining your lips and filling them in using a sexy shade of your choice. I used a brown liner to outline my top and bottom lip and then I went in with a nude lippie to fill them in. Finally, complete the look by misting your face with some setting spray. Voilà!
